NOBS History and Mission
|
In August of 1983, a group of Ohioans who were interested in books and book collecting formed the Northern Ohio Bibliophilic Society, Inc. (NOBS). Book dealers, workers, and collectors, their common interest was in promoting the production, preservation, collection, and sale of fine and antiquarian books, and the preservation and protection of the heritage of the printed word. Beginning with twelve members in 1983, the Society now has about 300 members. The membership is comprised of book dealers, book collectors, librarians, and institutions. NOBS sponsors an annual book fair in Akron and has held fairs in Cleveland and Canton as well. The Society also holds programs of literary interest, publishes a quarterly newsletter for members, an annual directory of member dealers, and an annual publication sent to each member. NOBS is devoted to the recognition, dissemination, and preservation of fine and antiquarian books. The organization holds an annual antiquarian book fair in Akron, Ohio, meets for monthly NOBS Forums (presentations on various book and book-collecting topics), and publishes a quarterly newsletter with articles of interest to members.
